There are four holy places in Uttarakhand dedicated to Hindu Gods and holy rivers of India. The four shrines are situated within the Garhwal Region. These are collectively referred as “Char Dhaam of Uttarakhand” . Pilgrims from all over India and abroad visit the shrines as “Char Dhaam Yatra”. In Hindu religion, Char Dhaam Yatra holds has great importance and sanctity. It is believed that every Hindu should undertake Char Dhaam Yatra at least once in a life time to avail the blessings of gods adorning the shrines.

Haridwar is the traditional point to start Char Dhaam Yatra of Uttarakhand. It is in the plains and easily accessible by Road & Train from other locations of India, including New Delhi. It is also accessible by Road from Dehradun, which has Airport. So, Piligrims can fly to Dehradun from Delhi & other locations in India and then proceed to Haridwar by Road travel.

Haridwar is famous for Ganga Aarthi which takes place in evening daily and through out the year.

From Haridwar, Piligrims can travel by Road to the next stop in Char Dham yatra ie Rishikesh, which is also in plains. Ganga Aarthi takes place in Rishikesh also in the evening daily.

From Rishikesh, Piligrims can travel to Four places of Chaar Dhaam yatra i.e, Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. Details are given below.

Itinerary

Day 1Haridwar to Barkot

Early morning meet to MyTourMakers representative and drive towards Barkot. En-route visit Kempty Fall and enjoy the beauty of the Himalayas, (route may be changed as per road condition & traffic), later drive straight to Barkot, for Overnight stay & Dinner.

Barkot Weather: Generally enjoyable in summer, the temperature ranges from 25-30 degree Celsius,

Day 2Barkot to Yamnotri (Meal: Breakfast & Dinner)

After breakfast drive to Jankichatti, trek starts from here to Yamunotri (6kms). On arrival leave the vehicle and start to ascend on the trek route either by walk or pony/doli (at own cost). On arrival at Yamunotri purchase Prasad from local small shops, then proceed to holy dip in natural hot water spring or in river Yamuna (icy cold water). One can cook rice in “Surya Kund” (hot water spring), dipping in a cloth and take cooked rice home as Prasad. Pooja can be offered to mythological “Divya Shila”. Take blessings of Mata Yamuna and trek down to Jankichatti. Later drive back to Barkot for night stay & dinner.

Yamunotri Temple: Maharani Gularia of Jaipur built the temple in the 19th Century. It was destroyed twice in the present century and rebuilt again. At Yamunotri, One can cook rice by packing it in a cloth and dipping it in the hot water of the Tapt kund. Pilgrims take this cooked rice home as “Prasad”.

Here near the temple “Pooja” can be offered to Divya Shila.

Surya Kund: There are a Number of thermal springs near temple, which flows into numerous pools. The most important of these is Surya Kund.
Yamunotri Weather- In summer the maximum temp is 18 degrees and the minimum is 10 degrees Celsius.

The days are pleasantly cool but the nights are cold.

Day 3Barkot to Uttarkashi (Meal: Breakfast & Dinner)

Morning after breakfast drive towards Uttarkashi after reaching check-in hotel, evening free to visit the kashi vishwanath temple, overnight stay and dinner at hotel.

Uttarkashi: is home to a number of ashrams, temples. The name of the town reflects its similarity to and location (as north of) the city of Kashi (Varanasi). Similar to Varanasi, town of Uttarkashi is also situated on the banks of River Ganga.

Vishwanath temple – Vishwanath temple is one of the oldest Shiva temples in Northern India. Re- constructed in 1857 by Maharani Khaneti Devi of Tehri State in the ancient architectural style. It is situated at the heart of the town. Ganeshji, Sakshi Gopal, Markandeya Rishi’s small shrines are also part of the temple complex. Akhand Jyoti as well as Akhand Abhishek, special aarti at morning and evening are offered.

Uttarkashi Weather – Generally hot in summer, the temperature ranges from 30-35 degree Celsius but nights is pleasant, cold in winters.

Day 4Uttarkashi to Gangotari – Uttarkashi (Meal: Breakfast & Dinner)

Morning proceed to Gangotri, en-route enjoy the drive parallel to Bhagirathi River and the most magnificent view of the Himalayas. On arrival Gangotri have a holy dip in river Bhagirathi (icy cold water). Perform Pooja and Hindu rites at the bank of the river. Then proceed for darshan, of Mata Ganga, Lord Shiva, Hanuman, Vinayka and Bhagirath Maharaj, have blessings and return back to Uttarkashi. Overnight stay at Uttarkashi.

Gangotri Temple: The temple was constructed by the Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa in the 18th Century, is situated on the right bank of Bhagirathi.

Gangotri Weather: The maximum temperature during summer can go up to 20° Celsius. Summer nights can get cooler with a minimum temperature of 10° Celsius.

Day 5Uttarkashi to Gangotari - Phata (Meal: Breakfast & Dinner)

Early morning after breakfast leave for almost a day long to Guptkashi/Phata/Sitapur. At the evening check-in hotel relax, overnight stay &dinner at hotel.

Guptakashi: The name Gupt Kashi means “Hidden Benares”. Mythology describes how when the Pandava brothers were searching for a glimpse of Shiva, Shivji first concealed himself at Guptkashi, but later fled from them further up the valley to Kedarnath, where the Pandavas finally got their wish fulfilled.

Guptkashi Weather: pleasant in summer, the temperature ranges from 25-30 degree Celsius

Day 6`Phata to Kedarnath (Meal: Breakfast & Dinner)

Early morning Drive towards sonprayag, from here start your trek towards kedarnath ji, overnight stay at kedarnath ji.

RITUALS AND ACTIVITIES: Pujan at kedarnath ji temple, Nandi pujan, Shankracharya ji darshan

Day 7Kadarnath to Phata (Meal: Breakfast & Dinner)

Early morning after darshan and poojan trek back towards sonprayag, from here catch your vehicle and drive towards phata hotel, overnight stay and dinner at hotel.

Day 8Phata to Joshimath (Meal: Breakfast & Dinner)

After breakfast drive towards Joshimath via chopta, (chopta is known as mini Switzerland). Later check in into Joshimath hotel, at evening you can visit shankracharya math, and narshing temple. Overnight stay and dinner at hotel.

Day 9Joshimath to Badrinath (Meal: Breakfast & Dinner)

Early morning drive towards badrinath ji, In Badri Dham take a bath in tapt kund(hot water spring) then go for Badrinath ji Darshan visit surrounding temple laxmi temple, Hanuman Ji temple, Kuber ji , Aadi kedareshwar temple etc. after darshan and poojan, drive back towards Joshimath for Overnight stay and dinner.

RITUALS AND ACTIVITIES: Snan at Tapt Kund, Badrinath ji Darshan, luxmi mata temple darshan, Hanuman ji temple, kuber ji darshan, aadi kedareshwar temple darshan, pind Daan or Shraadh at Braham Kapal.

Day 10Joshimath to Haridwar (Meal: Breakfast)

After breakfast check out from hotel and drive towards Haridwar, en route you can see Nandprayag, Karnaprayag, Rudraprayg, Devprayag. Drop you at Haridwar/ Rishikesh.
